Welcome Cisco to Azure Stack
Rumors were around for some time already, but tonight the news finally surfaced:
Cisco joins the club with Dell, HPE and Lenovo as official Microsoft Azure Stack ecosystem partner.
Cisco together with Microsoft jointly developed Cisco Integrated System for Microsoft Azure Stack. This offering is based on Ciscos popular UCS (Unified Computing System). The idea behind Azure Stack is to bring Azure to your data center. It enables you to run IaaS and PaaS offerings just like on Azure. You can work with Azure Stack in the same way you would with Azure, as Azure stack shares its looks and interfaces with the Azure public cloud. No matter if you prefer working in the Azure portal, use PowerShell or deploy JSON based ARM templates, you don’t need to relearn anything. Just change the endpoint and continue in the same way.
If you want to learn more about Ciscos new offering look at their official announcement here or find Microsofts announcement here. Like with the other three players expect the Cisco Integrated System for Microsoft Azure Stack in Q3/2017.
If you want to learn more about Azure Stack in general, expect more posts in the near future or contact me with questions. As well have a look at this webcast, Markus Klein, Stefan Denninger and myself recorded at last years Microsoft Ignite or have a look at this short intro on ARM templates.
Lastly if you want to learn more on Azure and you live in Thuringia, Germany join me coming Monday (Feb 13 2017) at Azure Thüringen Meetup. Microsoft MVP Eric Berg will be talking about Azure 101 and I will follow that with ARM templates 101.
